This holiday season, Marfire is honoring its partners with a gift that gives back -to the islands, the oceans, and the shared future. Instead of traditional corporate gifts, Marfire has made a donation to the Central Caribbean Marine Institute’s (CCMI) coral restoration program on behalf of its collaborators.
The donation supports the restoration of Cayman’s coral reefs through the growth and replanting of resilient coral fragments, strengthening marine biodiversity and safeguarding the oceans. Marfire is proud to support CCMI, whose cutting-edge research, intricate reef restoration, and immersive school programs protect the reefs while inspiring the next generation of ocean stewards.
The Cayman Islands are home to some of the Caribbean’s most stunning coral reefs, yet recent years have pushed them to the brink. In 2023, a global marine heatwave bleached 95% of CCMI’s coral nursery, leaving only 22 corals surviving. Remarkably, by 2024, the nursery had been rebuilt, growing over 120 healthy corals - all descended from those few that endured the heat and resistant to disease. Today, CCMI’s nursery may hold one of the last remaining populations of the critically endangered Acropora cervicornis in Little Cayman.
This holiday season, Marfire’s donation supports reef restoration, scientific research, and the growth of a resilient marine future. Together with CCMI, these efforts help Cayman’s reefs recover and flourish for generations to come.
Wishing a joyful, sustainable holiday season from all at Marfire.
